How to add an alias to your AOL account

America Online is one of the original companies that has universally introduced the Internet to people's lives. If you have an AOL screen name that you used at some point in the past and forgot it, you cannot get it from AOL. In this situation, you have some workarounds to help you get started with AOL again.

Screen Name Recovery

If you go to the login screen on the AOL website, you will be provided with an empty field to enter your username and one for your password. Under the password window, you see a link that will help you recover your password. Although this will help you recover your forgotten password, you cannot restore your forgotten username. As of September 2011, AOL does not offer a service that will help you get a display name.

Contact a friend

Although AOL does not offer a service that will help you recover your forgotten username, this does not necessarily mean that you cannot find it. One way to help you find your account name is to contact a friend or family member. If you were friends with someone from the AOL messenger, you may be able to get your username from this person. A friend can also save your name in his address book.

Set up another account

If you cannot find a friend or contact person to help you find your AOL display name, you will no longer be able to access this account. When this happens, the only other option is to create another account in AOL or another email provider. If you stop using your AOL account for a certain time, it will be deleted. At this point, he will no longer receive emails or work as a login on AOL services.

Considerations

If you set up another AOL account, it is recommended that you create a logon file on your computer. That way, if you forget your username again, you can access the information. Other similar services allow you to recover your username and password, even if you forgot them by answering security questions or sending a code via text message. If you tend to forget your username and do not want to keep records, using another service may be in your interest.
